Working At Home And Lunching Habits – Economies You Can Find By Cutting Out The Office Lunch.
I was reflecting just now on the monthly expense of workday lunches and the savings that appear naturally to happen when you Work from home. When I was employed in the city and struggled to the office each day I developed the habit of buying some form of lunch or other each day. I found it tricky to form the habit of taking a pre packed lunch with me, preferring instead to patronise the office coffee shop, or pop out to the shops for a sandwich each day. What is more, the persuasion of colleagues sometimes dictates a trip to a city centre cafe from time to time and sometimes a pre packed lunch would remain uneaten.
Now that I work from home things are different. There is nobody close to me to place temptation in my way and the most convenient coffee bar is a good three miles from where I live (and work). There are no sandwich shops in the neighbourhood so I am compelled to attend to lunch arrangements in my own kitchen. Because I spend a significant amount of time at a computer screen doing Online jobs I find it possible to take a food break anytime and prepare whatever I want.
Although it was not a significant reason in my decision to work from home I am in fact finding that the savings are not small. I can make a reasonable luxurious sandwich at just a fraction of the price I would pay on the high street. I am also able to avoid the temptation of the sweet course, most sandwich shops display muffins in the most tempting of ways.
Work from home brings numerous advantages and the economy of the lunch is perhaps an insignificant one. But tiny savings can add up and coupled with the reduced or eliminated cost of commuting and other economies it all adds up to a good economic argument. The work from home movement seems likely to progress.
